Adding your domain to Cloudflare

Cloudflare is a global network aimed at making connected websites faster and protected from DDoS attacks. You can receive a free HTTPS protocol, manage your DNS records, configure IP access and geolocation rules.

How to connect Cloudflare to your site

Go to Cloudflare and sign up.

Enter your domain's root name (without www.) and click Continue.

Then select a suitable plan level; we chose a Free plan for this article.

Then Cloudflare scans automatically to identify DNS records and other records for your domain and subdomains in order to add them to your dashboard.

Once the scanning is over, check if all DNS records were identified. If any record is missing, add them manually.

Now you need to delegate your domain using a CNAME-record.

To add your CNAME-record, click +Add record. Select CNAME in the Type dropdown menu. Then enter @ in the Name field and, in the Target field, specify the technical address of your website with a dot at the end. Save the changes.

NOTE

Learn how to find the technical address of your site. You should only use the technical address of your site as each site has its unique address.

After adding the CNAME-record, click Continue. Copy the DNS-servers that Cloudflare assigns you.

Now you need to add them to your domain.

How to specify Cloudflare NS-servers for your domain

  • 1 If your domain is registered with Flexbe:

Go to the Settings → Domains on Flexbe. Click on the "..." icon and select Change DNS servers.

In the open menu, switch the Use your own DNS servers toggle on. Delete all NS records and paste the copied Cloudflare's nameservers. Then click Save.

  • 2 If your domain is registered with another registrar:

You need to change DNS records in your account with the domain register (the service provider that has registered your domain name).

NOTE

Transfer of your domain to new DNS servers may take up between 24 and 48 hours.

SSL certificate for a domain on Cloudflare

If you transfer your domain to Cloudflare servers, the SSL certificate issued by Flexbe becomes invalid. You need to get a certificate in your Cloudflare account.

To do this, go to SSL/TLS → Overview and switch the SSL/TLS Recommender toggle on.
